Facebook and Skype -a joint venture?

If sources are to be believed then the CEO of Social networking site Facebook Mark Zuckerberg is either considering a move to buy Skype or form a joint venture with it according to the Reuters.

Of the two reliable sources who have produced the news, one source says that the social networking site is considering to buyout Skype at a price of between 3 billion and 4 billion US dollars whereas the other reliable source says that the networking site is considering a move to form a joint venture with Skype.

Facebook has gained a lot of popularity over the years so as Skype did it from the date of its release. Recently, Skype released its latest software update version 5.0 for Windows operating system and it included a Facebook tab that would allow users to call or chat with their Facebook Friends through Skype’s Interface.

According to the reports, Facebook was not the only one chasing Skype, it says that even Google was also involved in early talks with Skype to initiate a joint venture between the duo.

When Skype was contacted on Wednesday, the company replied by saying “As a practical matter, we avoid commenting on rumor and speculation.”

So, we have to wait and see whether Facebook will buyout Skype, will it be a joint venture or is it a just rumor like a passing cloud. Feed your thoughts on this deal through comments.
