What’s new in the latest version of Google Chrome Browser

Google Chrome has always been a first-pick browser for users who insist on a minimal user interface, faster loading of web pages and good security features. The latest version of the browser, Google Chrome 15 undoubtedly, is one such browser which has kept intact all the above said features with some minor tweaking under the hood. The new version of the browser was released recently and at the outset, it looks (User Interface) a much better browser than its predecessor versions.

In this article, I will mention about a couple of major changes along with the minor changes that have been done in the new version of the Google chrome browser.

You can download the latest version of the Google Chrome browser from here

A Redesigned User interface on the New Tab page

The New tab page on the older versions of the Google Chrome browser used to have the entries of your most visited sites, installed apps and recently closed tabs all under a single page. See the snapshot below.

In the latest version, the new tab page has undergone a revamp and you can see your most visited sites and installed apps both on different screens. See the two snapshots below.

The interface design of the browser’s new tab page somewhat resembles a typical home screen design of an android device where you have various applications placed on different home screens. Here in the chrome browser, the most visited sites can be called as an application resident on one of the home screens and the installed apps as another application resident on the second home screen.

Similar to your android device, you can drag and drop your various installed applications onto different screens. For example, if you want to create a new screen for placing all your game applications, then click and drag any of the game applications a little bit downwards until you see a third screen appearing at the dock of your browser. Once you see the new screen appearing at the dock, drop the application over that screen on the dock.

You can also name the new screen by double clicking on it.

You can easily remove an application from the new tab by simply dragging and dropping the application to the region of the dock where you see a small dialog box that says Remove from Chrome. This is what you do on your android device to remove an application from your home screen.

The list of Recently closed tabs can be obtained by clicking on Recently Closed entry displayed at the bottom right on the dock of your browser.

Extensions can be accessed directly from within the Options window

In the older versions of chrome browser, the Options window used to have only three categories namely Basic, Personal Stuff and Under the hood where you used to do changes to the settings of your browser. See the snapshot below for details.

The new version has another category added to its Options window called Extensions from where you can access and manage all the extensions that have been installed on your browser. In the older versions, to access the Extensions page, you were supposed to navigate as Tools-> extensions, but however, this way of navigating to the extensions page still occupies its space in the new version also. Thus, you can access the Extensions page from a couple of places on your browser.

So, above mentioned are the couple of major changes that have been carried out in the latest version of Google Chrome browser.

The minor changes include tweaks related to security features under the hood. Google has come up with solutions to fix various vulnerabilities in the browser that comprises of attacks against the browser’s SSL from hackers. Some benchmark studies have also revealed that the latest version of the Chrome browser does go above the par when it comes to loading of web pages when compared to other major browsers like Firefox and IE.
